Update: Where have I been?

Hello, hello, hello!

It really has been a little bit over a month since my last actual post back in June and although not at a lot happened back then, it feels like everything is moving so fast now. I moved into my dorm in college less than a week ago and I have no idea what’s going on most of the time! Haha, I feel like that is the fun part of this whole experience. I have a hard time making friends and opening up to people and right now my biggest fear  is that I might not make any friends around here. I am making an effort to change that, though. I am. Promise! Nothing but positive vibes around here.

Something really I really am excited about is for school to start. I will be majoring in both Graphic Design and Marketing (next semester!) and there’s a really good feeling that comes from knowing you’ll be learning about subjects and things you are actually interested in! I still have to take a math class, but I can live with that.

Now, let’s talk about my dorm. Although the whole process was exhausting, I am so happy with how it turned out and I would love you make a different post on that to show you all what it looks like. Are you cool with that? I plan to slowly but surely get back on track, considering I also want to figure out my way around here and actually make friends!

Anyway, I just wanted to give you all a small update on my life and say that I really have missed you a lot. I really did and I’m so happy to hear about your summer. What did you do?! Did you travel somewhere? Did you stay home? I wanna hear about it. And if you have any suggestions on future posts, feel free to comment.

Ya girl is back and hopefully she won’t disappear again!

Much love,

Perfect makeup for summer

Hello, hello, hello!

How are you guys doing today? I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far. Your hostess over here didn’t go to her senior trip, so I currently have a week off of school and enjoying every single second of it. Hehe.

I decided to take advantage of my week off and the fact that I got my hands on a laptop that actually works to start getting back on track with my blog after being away for a couple weeks. It feels weird because I was really starting to get the hang of this, so please bear with me while I pull myself together once again!

woo

Now, let’s talk business. Coming from someone who was born and raised in a place that most people would call ‘paradise’, there are some perks to growing up in it. On the good side, we have beautiful beaches, amazing food, and I get to meet people from all over the world. But on the negative side, the weather is unbearable. I’m talking about crazy heat that makes you want to stay in all day with the A/C on doing nothing.

Luckily for me, I have mastered the art of makeup during this time of the year and here is how you can make yo’self all pwetty for all da boyz. (What was that…)

facesc

Face: L’Oreal’s Infallible foundation ($9 – $11 USD / ‎£9.99 / $200 pesos)

Concealer: MAC Pro Longwear concealer ($20 USD / £17.00 / $320 pesos)

My dearly beloved and dirty Infallible foundation by L’Oreal. What I love about this foundation is that it will stay on no matter how much you sweat throughout the day. I have completely stopped using foundation for now because I don’t like the idea of sweat and foundation and, nope. Nope. But if you feel the need/want some coverage, definitely go for a light to medium coverage base and use a double fiber or stippling brush for a natural look!

I have been covering my dark circles with MAC’s Pro Longwear concealer and it’s been a walk in the park. It makes me look much more awake and ready to take on my day with a natural, fresh look. I also found out a quick, little technique that helps my undereye concealer not crease and I’m so excited about this. Let me know if you’d like me to write a post about it!

browssc

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (About $22 at Sephora.com)

It’s (almost) summer and it’s hot and sticky outside, and the last thing we want is for our brows to look messy, am I right? What I’ve found that works best for me is Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Dipbrow pomade because it is not a powder, so it won’t come off but instead, this gel/mouse type formula will really stay on your brows whilst also keeping them in place.

eyessc

Eyes: Urban Decay’s NAKED BASICS palette

I don’t ask for much when it comes to my eye makeup during the summer, so when I am feeling fancy, this palette does the job for me. It has 6 neutral shades that can help you build a day look or a fancier, night-time look. My go-to palette and it is perfect for traveling!

lipssc

lips2

Lips: The Body Shop lipstick #225

Mama loves her neutrals and I have found a new favorite of mine. I recently bought this pink-ish nude beauty at The Body Shop and fell in love with it. It is a moisturizing lipstick with a slight satin finish to it that will be perfect for any day-time look! I am all heart eyes emoji over it.

It’s starting to get really hot out there, so remember to let your skin breathe during the summer! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a nice ol’pair of sunglasses will do the trick for you. I feel like a mom right now. Eat your vegetables.

That is it for today, sweet little ducklings. I am really happy and excited to be back with you guys and can’t wait for you to see the fun content I have prepared for you. If you have any suggestions/comments please let me know in a comment and I’ll be more than happy to work on it! Friendly reminder that you can still comment even if you are not a WordPress user.

Don’t forget to follow me on my social media so we can interact and be friends!

Meet the Blogger – Isabel

Hey, lovelies! I got to answer these fun, entertaining questions for Chanelle a couple weeks ago and it would be awesome if you checked her blog out and left her some love! ❤

Chanelle Hayley

Isabel NHello, hello, hello! My name is Isabel and I am the founder of fashion, makeup and lifestyle blog – Styling Canvas.

I am currently 17 years old and I live in the sunny southeast of Mexico. I’m a senior in high school and I plan on going away to college in a couple months to major in Graphic Design and Marketing! I’m really, really excited. I danced for about 9 years of my life before I decided it was time to part ways with that world and focus on other things.

I ran into Chanelle’s blog and immediately became obsessed with it. Because that does not sound creepy at all! I’m not a creep. I promise.

Can we have some of Camp Rock’s This Is Me playing in the background? Cheesy music. And now, here are some questions I got to answer:

1. When did you begin blogging?

UPDATE: Where have I been?!

Hello, hello, hello!

What?! What is this?! Who is this person?! Ha.. ha.. I know, I know. I have been out of the loop this past month and I am so, so sorry for that! I have a very valid excuse, though! My laptop had been acting like a little bum for the past six months or so and it decided to completely die on me three weeks ago. Bummer. I had to take it to the Apple Store to get it checked and unfortunately, they’re still working on getting my baby fixed. So that’s what happened and the reason why I disappeared all of the sudden!

On the bright side, my (great) sister is allowing me to use her old laptop while I wait to get mine back so I can finally catch up with you guys and get back on my game once again! I’m genuinely so happy right now, you’ve no idea. I missed you guys. How have you been?! Did anything fun happen this month? Are you looking forward to anything this/next month? I’m excited because my birthday is in less than 27 days; June 19th, hehe.

I have a list of things I want to talk to you guys about and I can’t wait for you guys to see the little surprise I have for you which will happen (if I’m not wrong) in 21 days!

If there are any products you would like me to review or looks you’d like me to come up with, please let me know and I will be more than happy to work on that! Just wanted to write this quick little post before actually getting back on track. I hope you are all doing well and I will talk to you soon! It feels so good to be back.

April 2015 favorites ♡

aprilf
Hello, hello, hello! How are my precious little ducklings doing today? Insert the baby duck emoji here. It’s May 1st! It feels like April was yesterday. Hehe. Seriously, though, am I the only one who is like, freaking out over how fast time is running? It honestly feels like December/Christmas was like a month ago! I have a month and a half left of high school before I graduate and then I’m off to college. I’m so nervous but excited at the same time.

Anyways, I am back with another lil post and this time, I will be talking about the things that made me go all heart eyes emoji and feel like a fierce bi$$h throughout April! This is going to be a pretty long post so go get some snacks, sit back, relax and let’s get started.

face FACE

  1. In case you did not notice based on my Easy Makeup For A Day Out or Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour palette review – which you can read by clicking on them – posts, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette has owned my heart since day day I bought it. I love the shades, the pigmentation, the use you can get out of it; everything. This palette retails for $40 and you can get it at Sephora. It is on the pricey side but I believe it is worth every cent you spend on it.
  2. L’Oreal’s Infallible Foundation quickly escalated it’s way up through the charts and although I initially purchased it so I could have a light-coverage foundation to wear to school, I have found myself ditching my beloved MAC and Chanel foundations for this.
  3. The Body Shop’s InstaBlur Face Primer – this thing is amazing. It comes out in a gel-like form and once you put it on your face, it feels like you no longer have a face but a baby’s butt instead. That’s how good this is. It also makes my makeup last all day. Great dupe for Benefit’s Porefessional!
  4. Real Technique’s Miracle Complexion Sponge owns my heart. We only have about three Sephora stores in Mexico and unfortunately, we don’t have one where I live, so I had to dig through the deep dark waters of cosmetics to find a good dupe for the Beauty Blender. And I did! This is amazing and you should definitely try it if you haven’t!

eyesEYES

  1. Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar Palette is love, Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar Palette is life. I am in love with this palette. Apart from the fact that it smells like heaven, the warm shades in this are pigmented as HECK. I have a post on a quick look I made with this palette and you can read it here.
  2. Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion: I had been using NARS’  eyeshadow primer for the past two years and I wanted to change and try something else, so I bought this. GIRL, lemme tell ya somethin’ – switching primers has been one of the best decisions I’ve made because this is amazing. It makes my eyeshadow look BOMB and I just love it.
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel and Dip Brow Pomade: I stepped up my eyebrow game with these two that I like to call my ‘dynamic duo’ and I walk around looking and feeling like the fiercest bi$$h in the room because of this.

skincare

SKINCARE

  1. I recently bought Lush’s Dark Angels Face Cleanser/Mask on my trip to Orlando and only used it once a week to pamper myself. Things changed two weeks ago when I got my monthly gift and broke out like a BITCH. Sorry, there was no other way to put it. I was breaking out SO. FREAKING. BAD. and this baby saved my skin. Seriously, try this if you haven’t because it is a lifesaver.

hair

HAIR

  1. Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo: I am trying to grow out my hair so I changed my routine of washing my hair every night to washing it every two days, and this has been doing the job for me when I feel a little bit gross. It gives my hair SO MUCH volume and leaves it feeling all nice and soft. I love it.
  2. When I do wash my hair though, I use L’Oreal’s EverCréme Shampoo. This bottle of glory is sulphate free, which is great for your hair and it feels amazing when I massage it into my scalp. I just want to wash my hair for hours with this.

RnDOM

RANDOM

  1. Valfre’s 100% Boys Tears iPhone Case – you can buy it here
  2. Sam Smith’s – In The Lonely Hour
  3. Glitter nail polish
  4. Hand sanitiser

That was it for my April favorites! Do we have any favourites in common? If not, I would love to hear about your favourites. Let me know in a comment below! It’s a new month and I am so excited for the things ahead all of us. I hope you are all doing well and I will talk to you soon.

Outfit of the day (#OOTD) | April 29th

ootd Hello, hello, hello! Look at me stepping up my blog game with those edits. How are you guys doing today? I am currently on that couch potato position while listening to Tyler the Creator’s new album and enjoying life. I am having a good day and I hope you are having a great day as well. And if you’re not, I really hope things eventually get better. Crossing my fingers for you.

The weather is slowly and steadily becoming unbearable. The worst part of this whole situation is that my school is really strict with the dressing code and girls are not allowed to wear shorts or things that show “too much skin.” I took advantage of the fact that thankfully, we have AC in the classrooms and put together this nice and refreshing outfit for school. By the time I realised I didn’t take full body pictures of my outfit, I had already put on my PJ shorts and the laziness is too real right now. I took some pictures of what I wore, though! So, here you go.

3 Under $100: Flirty Bikinis You’ll Wear All Summer

Hello, hello, hello!

How are my precious little flowers doing today? Let me start this one off by saying – OH MY GOD GFUHIDJOPFVCDHSUIJOKPLVGFCDXSUHIRVFDHSX9I0O-PTR429 VDLXSVFKLSP GUYS GUYS GUYS WE REACHED OUR FIRST 1000 VIEWS ON STYLING CANVAS TODAY. WHAT THE HECK?! A thousand freaking views on our second week! This is crazy! I am honestly so, so, so happy right now and I just can’t thank you all enough for the support and love Styling Canvas has been receiving. Specially since it is still a baby! It was born two weeks ago. Really big and fat. 10 pounds. It had back rolls when it came out of the womb.

I hope you all stick around with me because I have a huge giveaway planned for you once I reach 500 followers and I’m sure you won’t want to miss out on that. Trust me. Hehe.

landscape-1430248176-hbz-swim-under-100-00-index

Now, let’s talk summer. “Bikini body”, Iwhisper to myself as I then proceed to shove a cookie down my throat.

From a retro-two piece that would catch Taylor Swift’s eye to the LBD of bikinis – the classic black bikini every girl should own, here’s a quick little post on somewhat affordable suits to be a lazy little bum in by the pool or actually go swimming in.

hbz-swim-under-100-topshop

How cute is this pink retro two piece bikini from Topshop? We don’t have Topshop here in Mexico, but you can bet your sweet nanny’s butt I would drag myself to Topshop and get it because YES.

You can get this bikini set at Topshop for $48 bucks.

hbz-swim-under-100-hm*Meryl Streep’s voice* Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. But this two piece suit from H&M is adorable.

Bikini top: $20

Bottom: $13

1428012907910-P-2528733

You will no longer have to go through TRIANGL’s instragram feed and cry on the inside because their stuff is too pricey. I found this adorable bikini set on the deep, dark waters of the internet and guess what? It is only $13 freakin’ bucks! (45% off)

You can find this baby here.

This was just a quick lil post I wanted to make just to slowly get back on track with my blog and my posts! Is there anything in specific you would like to see? Please let me know!

Friendly reminder that even if you are not a member of WordPress, you can still leave me a comment! Just click on the little box underneath this post and all you will have to do is type your name down and voila! Hope you’re having a wonderful week and I will talk to you soon.

The Liebster Award

Hello, hello, hello!

How are my little precious sunflowers doing this week? I hope you’re all doing well! Is there anything you’re all looking forward to? I have a four day week – no school on Friday and a four day weekend waiting for me. Heck yes. I have also been trying not to throw my laptop across the room every time it decides it does not want to turn on and although the no laptop lyfe has been pretty relaxing, it is starting to get annoying because I can’t keep up with my blog and post as much as I would like to. Angry emoji face.

Let’s move onto something more positive. Another award? What?! The lovely Daisy from Ladybugs & Pugs has nominated me to do this little award for new and upcoming blogs and it makes me so happy to know someone took me into consideration to do this! It’s crazy to think about this because my blog has been receiving so much support and attention from you guys just a few weeks after I started it! Mama bear appreciates every little bit of support Styling Canvas has been receiving. I just called myself mama bear..

Let’s get started.

Who would win in a fight between Spiderman and Batman? Why?

You can’t just ask someone this and expect them to be okay after thinking it through. What the heck, Daisy? I’d say Spiderman, since he has some badass superpowers on his favour. Not everyone is a rich lil boy like you, Batman. I wish I could climb walls and shoot spiderwebs from my wrists. Wishful sigh.

What always makes you laugh?

Making fun of my dogs. Hold the phone – this might sound like I am some sort of bully but I’m not, I promise. Those two are my precious little babies but oh my god, the things they do sometimes. They never fail to make me smile. And Shane Dawson. One of my favorite comedians.

Who is your role model?

Audrey Hepburn, no doubt about that. She was such a genuine, kind, beautiful person and we don’t have enough of that around here anymore.

Do you believe in aliens?

I don’t think about this a lot because then I end up having one of those dreadful existential crisis I tend to have when I think too much. I do believe there’s life somewhere else other than just planet earth. What do you guys think?

Would you rather travel into the past and meet your great-great-great-grandparents, or into the future and meet your great-great-great-grandchildren?

Definitely meet my great great great grandparents. I am so interested in how people used to live decades ago and I would love to just sit down and have a conversation with them.

What is your favourite movie quote?

“My Mama always said you’ve got to put the past behind you before you can move on”, from Forrest Gump.

How would you like to be remembered?

Definitely by doing something good in this world.

What is your signature dance move?

My signature dance move is, I don’t have a signature dance move. I just jump around and yell at people with excitement.

It’s the zombie apocalypse and you can have three fictional characters on your team. Who do you choose and why?

I tried to think of a *~*~ dream team~*~* but I honestly couldn’t come up with a good lineup for that and I would probably die first so THERE’S THAT.

What are your favourite song lyrics?

“Strength will find you sooner than you ever thought it would” Waiting For My Sun To Shine by The Maine. I’m getting this tattooed on my wrist for my 18th birthday!

How do you make a cup of tea?

I’m pretty lazy so I’ll usually just heat up some water on the microwave and then add the tea bag. I’m a sucker for green tea with no sugar.

And anyone who hasn’t done it – please, do it! I nominate you as well.

Let’s play 20 questions. 😉

I feel like a teenage boy right now and they are not going to be 20 questions, I promise!

1. iPhone or Android?

2. What’s your favorite book and your favorite quote from said book?

3. What’s your favorite makeup product?

4. If I offered to pay you a roundtrip anywhere in the world right now, where would you want to go?

5. If you could tell your fifteen year old self something, what would it be?

6. How do you feel towards the mental image of a dog wearing a hat and riding a tricycle? I ask the important question.

7. If you could meet a celebrity, who would it be and what would you tell them?

8. Are you looking forward to anything this year?

9. Would you like to be a fashion model if you were offered the opportunity?

10. Do you have any pet peeves?

11. What’s your favorite thing about blogging?

Guys, we are less than 90 views away from reaching our first 1000 views on Styling Canvas! We also got to 100 followers this afternoon, which is great, too! This is amazing. It’s been two weeks and it amazes me how much this little idea of me has grown. Thank you a lot for the love and support, I appreciate it so much.

I have a new fashion related post in the oven for you guys and I will most likely be posting it sometime on Thursday so definitely stay tuned for that. I just really wanted to do this so I wouldn’t have to worry about it later on.

I hope you are all having a good week and I’ll talk to you soon. ❤

Creative Blogger Award

Hello, hello, hello!

First thing’s first. Thank you all so, so, so much for being so kind to me. The response my last post (you can read it here) received has been overwhelmingly warm and sweet, and reading your supportive comments really made it a bit easier for me to cope with the sadness. There is so much going on in my life at the moment and your kind words mean a lot to me. Thank you. Kiss kiss kiss kiss kissy kissy kiss.

Second; my laptop has refused to turn on since Wednesday and it finally turned on. It’s midnight. Haa… nice one. I missed you so much. I am back and hopefully won’t leave for long again! I am so happy right now, all I want to do is bear hug you all and suffocate you with love.

And last but not least before we move on to the actual topic of this post. I just came back from a nice dinner with a few friends and I got to talk busines$$$ with the girl who will officially help me shoot the outfits for my blog once she clears her schedule and fixes a couple things with her camera! I am SO, SO, SO excited to show you guys the outfits I came up with and offer you good quality content – because that is what you deserve.

NOW. Let’s get started.

I was recently nominated by the lovely Eilidh to do the Creative Blogger Award tag/questionnaire. I have been seeing a lot of people doing these lately and I really wanted to do it as well, but FINALLY, someone nominated me. Thank you, Eilidh!

Da Rules:

• Thank the person who nominated you and add their blog link.

• Share 5 facts about yourself.

• Nominate 10 blogs and add their blog links.

• Notify the bloggers that you nominated for the award.

• Pass the rules along.

Let’s get started!

1. I am a dog person. And when I say I am a dog person, I am just not saying I like dogs. No, no, no, nope, nope, nope, noupe. Girl. Sis. This so much more than just love for dogs. Sometimes I think I am obsessed with dogs. I will literally drop everything I am doing if it means I will get to pet a dog or play with it. I have two dogs! Nick (who was clearly not named after Nick Jonas.. nope.) and Oliver! Dogs are love, dogs are life.

2. My grandpa was an engineer but he was an artist on his free time. He would draw amazing portraits of my grandma or random people and there is a wall in their home that is filled with his art. I like to think my artistic and creative personality is something I got from him.

3. I love listening to spoken poetry. Sometimes I will fall asleep listening to it and here’s another fun fact, the most played song on my iTunes is actually this – 2087 plays. Hehe.

4. Taylor Swift is my favorite musician. No surprise. But something that will come off as a shocker for most people is that I also really, really like alternative, rock, pop punk and hardcore bands! I have been attending the Vans Warped Tour for the past three years and apart from my birthday and Christmas, it is one of the days I look forward to the most.

5. I’m a leftie. We have desks for two people in school and I sit on the right side, so my friend and I usually hit each other with our elbows while writing and that is actually one of the things we argue the most about!

Talking dreams

Hello, hello, hello.

How are you doing today? I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far and if you are not, I hope things get better for you. They will.

I came home today from school to find a letter on the mail waiting for me. I got rejected from my first choice college. You see, I got an email last week letting me know I did not get in and I felt rather fine, but I broke into tears when I read the physical letter. I was holding the physical proof that things were not going to be how I wanted them to; it felt real this time. Not gonna lie, I did cry. A lot. I even threw a small pity party for myself because it really isn’t a nice feeling to want something so much, and then being let known that you can’t have it.

I decided to reschedule the lifestyle blog post that I had planned to publish today for another day and write this from scratch instead. As I’m writing this with a little bit of a migraine and puffy eyes from bawling my eyes out, I did realise something. I did not get into this school but that doesn’t mean I should ever give up. If anything, this should give me an even more valid reason to never stop working hard and chasing my dreams. I will just have to work a little bit harder to get there.

I will be going to my second choice university and majoring in Marketing and International  Management. Not graphic design, as I had originally planned. It is kind of a drastic change, huh? Going from art school to business school. I have four years ahead of me and anything can happen in such a long amount of time.

I’m not sure where this is going, exactly. I don’t want my blog to just be defined by makeup or fashion, but I also really want to humanise it and share some of my experiences with you. Sadly, this is not a very exciting or happy one. But one day. One day something good – really, really good will happen – and I will find myself typing a blog post thanking you for the support.

Please, don’t give up on your dreams. No matter how impossible they seem to be. Don’t give up on yourself. Just work hard for what you want and don’t forget to stay humble.

Have a nice day and I will talk to you soon.
